Trim the Fat & Design Lean
In our line of work, insecurity can be measured by how many features are added to an app. People tend to add features to feel more comfortable with what they are releasing to the public. And we get it — the clients opinion matters, but we also want to see their app succeed and not sink to the bottom because they overwhelmed their users and assumed they knew what potential consumers wanted in their app.
We call this “app insecurity.” We see it in a lot of the projects we take on — clients doubting the initial work. Haven’t you ever heard of the saying “stick with your gut?” Don’t allow your insecurity to rule your judgment. Don’t add more makeup, or change your original design because you just aren’t sure about it. Of course, there is a difference in altering your app because it’s not in line with what you had in mind, but if it’s spot on and you’re letting your lack of confidence get the best of you, then… Stop it! We value every and any clients opinion, but we ask that you trust us. We’ve had several successful apps pass through our threshold and we work diligently with each client to ensure every app is ready to launch flourishingly.
We are all insecure people, in one way or another. There is nothing wrong with that. It’s an important part of the human experience. “It’s insecurity that is always chasing you and standing in the way of your dreams,” — Vin Diesel. Don’t allow your insecurity to tear down what you’ve worked so hard on building up. Don’t feel you have to overcompensate to make up for the possibility of your app failing. Because it’s just that — a possibility, a slim chance and not a sure thing.
Get your MVP in the hands of consumers and then iterate. Gain feedback from current users and then add. Build a strong user base and then add fluff.
Stick with your gut and leave your app insecurities at the door.
